Winter Honors Choir

For High School Students

February 15-16, 2019

Space is limited.  Don’t wait!

When is this event?  Friday and Saturday, February 15-16, 2019.

Who should attend?  9th-12th graders who have been approved to participate.

How do I receive approval?  You can receive approval in one of three ways:
1) Ask your choir director to submit an email recommendation.  This email of recommendation must be sent from your from your director’s school or church email address to Mr. Mark Lancaster at Ask them to include your email address as well in their email so that we can notify you of your acceptance.
2) Set up an iPhone/Facetime evaluation with Mr. Mark Lancaster. Facetime is the only video app we will use. (We will not use Skype, Google Hangouts, etc. We apologize in advance.) For your Facetime evaluation, please be prepared to sing a sacred, a capella song of your choice. Mr. Lancaster will also likely request that you sing the same song in a different key, ask you to sing a few major scales, and have you to vocalize with short warmups by rote. To set up an evaluation appointment, email Mr. Lancaster at
3) Submit a video audition to Mr. Mark Lancaster by email. Videos should not be longer than 8 minutes. In this video, please sing a sacred, a capella song of your choice in two different keys. Be sure to indicate which key you are attempting to sing by saying something like, “I am now going to sing Amazing Grace in the key of G.” You may use a piano/instrument or pitch generator to help you find the right starting note. Also, in this video, please sing three major scales using solfege syllables (do-re-mi): key of D, key of F, and key of Bb. These can be sung in whatever register is most comfortable. Submit videos to Mr. Lancaster at

TIP: Remember, you are auditioning for a choir… not a talent show. We are looking for vocalists who desire to be members of a choir, not performers who want the spotlight.

What is my next step after I receive approval?  After Mr. Lancaster sends you an email notifying you of your approval, you should register at

What’s the cost?  The cost for this event is $22. This includes all meals and a t-shirt.

Where can I find the repertoire list?  Please learn all of your music in advance. Rehearsal is not a time for learning music; it is a time for learning choral techniques and to develop group chemistry. You can download practice tracks and practice sheet music below on December 15th.

What’s the schedule?  Rehearsals begin Friday, February 15 at 6 pm and runs until 10 pm. We will resume rehearsal at 10 am on Saturday, February 16 until the concert which begins at 7:00 PM. If you are unable to attend any part of the rehearsals, please notify Mr. Lancaster in advance.

What is the dress requirement?  For rehearsals, the dress is CASUAL (jeans, t-shirts, tennis shoes). For the 7 pm Saturday concert, the required dress is FORMAL (Men must wear dark suits, a solid white button-up dress shirt, and a solid tie. Ladies must wear a solid (no patterns, stripes, etc.) ankle-length dress. While this does not have to be a “prom dress” it needs to be “dressy.” Because we will be on risers, high heels are discouraged.
