Master of Arts in Teaching Degree | Overview

The Master of Arts in Teaching is a 33-semester-hour graduate degree that seeks to provide leaders with graduate education in the art and science of teaching, inspiring professional excellence through the integration of biblical thought and life. It is designed for college graduates who desire additional education as professional teachers.

The program core for the Master of Arts in Teaching seeks to enhance Christian thinking and attitudes, professional teaching skills, and habits of lifetime learners, all of which are critical areas necessary for professional success in teaching.

Three Specialty Tracks for the Master of Arts in Teaching Degree

  • The Classroom Teaching Track is designed to enhance the craft of teaching for K-12 teachers in Christian, public, and private schools. Track courses address contemporary pedagogy including literacy, collaboration, legal issues, exceptional students, and instructional assessment. Track courses can also contribute to requirements for dually enrolled teacher-education prep students who are seeking initial licensure.
  • The Special Education Track is designed to develop skills and concepts for teachers of exceptional students. Completion of this track can also lead to K-8 Special Education Endorsement for teachers already licensed in Tennessee or to initial licensure in Special Education.
  • The Instructional Leadership Track provides preparation for individuals who are pursuing opportunities as K-12 educational administrators in Christian, public, and private schools. Completion of this track can also lead to a Tennessee license endorsement for instructional leadership.

It is our prayer that you will gain a more thorough understanding of the principles and methods of teaching, a biblical philosophy of pedagogy, a rigorous educational critique informed by a Christian worldview, and a grasp of the role of the teacher in the global building of God’s kingdom. We believe that God can bless you as you employ these skills and concepts for His glory.
