A Military-Friendly College

in Gallatin, Tennessee

Your college choice is an important decision. If you decide to make Welch your home away from home, you will find that our military-friendly community is the perfect place to complete an associate’s, bachelor’s, or master’s degree to help you advance your career or ministry. Here’s why:

We understand that it may be difficult to understand which benefits you qualify for and how to apply. In the past, you may have used partial amounts of your education benefits and now you’re unsure what you’re eligible for. To make things more complicated, Reservists and Guardsmen often receive educational benefits at a reduced rate, usually because their “active service” time (deployments, training, etc.) does not total the time required to receive full benefits. With all these variables, the process can be very overwhelming! But have no fear, we are here to help!

In recognition of selfless service since September 11, 2001, Welch College participates in the Yellow Ribbon Program. We believe that some things in life are earned. And you deserve it. The Yellow Ribbon Program can help you pay for higher out-of-state, private school, or graduate school tuition that the Post-9/11 GI Bill doesn’t cover.

Montgomery GI Bill is an older education benefit. Some service members paid a fee per month while on Active Duty to qualify for this benefit. Essentially, after you apply and receive this benefit, the VA sends you a check during the school year and it is up to you to decide how to best spend it while in school (paying tuition, housing, etc). Click here to read more for Active Duty, and click here for Selected Reserves.

Post-9/11 GI Bill (Chapter 33) can be applied to any higher education you want to use it towards over the course of 36 months. You must apply through the VA website, and after being approved, you receive a “certificate of eligibility.” The Post 9/11 G.I. Bill covers tuition up to the annual state average cost of tuition. Also, you may be eligible to receive a monthly basic allowance for housing (BAH rates) and even receive assistance to help cover the cost of textbooks. Click here to read more.

Our team will help you apply and receive this benefit.

If you have a service-connected disability that limits your ability to work or prevents you from working, the VA Vocational Rehabilitation and Employment (VR&E) program—also referred to as Chapter 31—can help. In some cases, your family members may also be eligible for certain benefits. The total months of benefits is 48 months.

Our team will help you apply for and receive this benefit.

This varies by state and amount of service-connected disability a service member receives from the VA. However, in some instances, a fully (100%) disabled service member’s dependents receive essentially the same benefits as the Post 9/11 G.I. Bill-full college with Basic Allowance for Housing (BAH).

You will have to apply for these benefits through the VA, but our team will be here to help you.
