Athletics & Fitness

Sharpen your skills as an athlete and learn more about how the human body works and how athletics can be used to the glory of God! Additionally, you will learn practical things like how to wrap an ankle and manage a youth sports team.

Who should attend?

WSA is for high school students who have completed 9th through 12th grades.

When is WSA?

WSA begins at 8:00 a.m. on Monday, June 3; pick-up is on Friday at 4:00 p.m. There are two check-in options: Sunday at 5:00 p.m. or Monday at 8:00 am.

Where will WSA take place?

On the campus of Welch College (1045 Bison Trail, Gallatin, TN). Students will also enjoy some off-campus activities during the evenings. Parents of students who are 17 and younger will need to sign a release form.

What can I expect during the week?

Before Welch Summer Academy begins, you will choose one of four tracks:

  • Worldview & Spirituality
  • Athletics & Fitness 
  • Acting & Theater
  • Music

Here is what a typical day will look like:

8 am | Breakfast & Devotion
9–12 pm | Seminars & Morning Activities
Noon | Lunch
1–4 pm | Seminars & Afternoon Activities
4 pm | Rest
5 pm | Dinner
6–11 pm | Evening Activities & snacks

What is the cost?

The cost is $350 for overnight students and $250 for day students. Cost includes lodging, meals, evening snacks, and activities. Students will also receive a Welch College t-shirt and other gifts. Students should plan to bring extra cash for the West End Coffee Shop.

Can I receive a scholarship to Welch?

Yes! All attendees will receive a $500 scholarship that can be applied to your tuition when you enroll as a traditional, undergrad student at Welch College. Yes, you read that right! You will earn your money back in scholarships if you attend Welch College as a student!

After I register and pay, are there any other forms?
What should I bring to WSA?
  • Bible
  • Notebook, pens, and pencils for classes.
  • Personal hygiene items
  • Socks and undergarments
  • Toiletries (deodorant, toothbrush, toothpaste, etc.)
  • For your privacy, the shower and toilet areas have a locking door and shower curtains.
  • Casual clothing for classes and outings (jeans, shorts, and t-shirts are acceptable; all shorts should be no higher than 2″ above the knee; please no tight-fitting clothing like spandex or leggings.)
  • Clothes you don’t mind getting messy for evening activities
  • Twin-sized sheets, pillow, and blankets
  • Alarm clock
  • Signed Participation Waiver, Release of Liability, and Medical Authorization Agreement form.
  • Your meals and snacks for evening snack times are provided, but you may choose to bring money for the campus store, coffee shop, and additional snacks.
What should I not bring?

You should not bring:

  • Personal electronic devices like computers, tablets, cell phones, TVs, video games, or anything similar.
  • Valuables such as expensive clothing, jewelry, or anything similar.
  • Weapons such as guns, pellet guns, air-soft guns, paintball guns, swords, or anything similar.
  • Energy drinks, caffeine pills, or any other stimulants.
  • Explosive or flame-producing items such as fireworks, firecrackers, lighters, matches, or anything similar.
  • Illegal or illicit items such as tobacco products, vape items, drugs, alcohol, or anything similar.
May I bring a cell phone?

Cell phones are not permitted during the week, except during emergencies. Students who are traveling to campus may bring a cell phone for the trip, but they will be expected to power down the device and leave it in their car until WSA officially ends or leave it with the WSA staff.

May I park my car on campus?

Students who are old enough to drive themselves to campus may park their car on campus, but you may not use your car any time during the week.

What if I have food allergies?

The Welch Dining Hall staff can accommodate food allergies. Be sure to list these allergies on your registration form. You will have access to a refrigerator and a phone if your condition requires it. It is the responsibility of students to maintain their diet.

What if I have medications?

The WSA staff does not distribute medication, but be sure to list your medications on your registration form. You will have access to a refrigerator and a phone if your condition requires it. It is the responsibility of students to maintain and administer their medication.

What are dorm rooms like at Welch?

Here is what you can expect in the dorm:

  • 2 students are in each room; 4 students are in each suite.
  • 2 rooms (4 students) share one toilet and stand-up shower
  • Each room (2 students) has a sink
  • Each room is set up with 2 beds and 2 closets.
  • The carpeted area of the room is 11 ft. (the window wall) x 12 ft.
  • Each closet is 3.5 ft. wide; each desk is 2.5 ft. x 3.5 ft.
