Being involved in theater is a great choice if you are looking to impact the world around you.

Bachelor’s Degree in Theater Education

Our Secondary Education program prepares students to teach skillfully in Christian, private, or public junior and senior high schools. The Theater Education program leads to licensure to teach theater in grades 6-12 in the public schools of Tennessee.. Licensure requires the successful completion of the PRAXIS II Assessments including the Specialty Area test in Theater, according to minimum scores determined by the Tennessee Department of Education.

Students studying Secondary Education with a major in Theater will be prepared to pursue state licensure for teaching theater, continue their studies in theater on the graduate level, and engage in professional work as an actor, director, and dramatic writer.

This program is offered as an interdisciplinary approach to education that encourages students to integrate Christian truth with a variety of humanities and arts disciplines. Students choose three areas of emphasis from the fields of English, History, Music, Psychology, and Theater.

By studying these emphases in tandem, students develop an appreciation for the interconnectedness of all human knowledge in relation to God’s truth. Such knowledge urges the student to greater intellectual and spiritual maturity.

Students from every major are welcome to audition for all plays, musicals, and touring productions, and all theater courses are open to any student interested in learning more about the dramatic arts.
