Mr. William Slater

Instructor of Education | Dean of Adult and Online Studies

William and his wife, Danielle, moved to Sumner County with their four children in 1996. Slater went on to earn a master’s degree in educational leadership from the University of South Florida while serving as a teacher. His role in school administration led them to Tennessee where he served as a headmaster for twenty-one years. During this time, he earned his law degree from the Nashville School of Law. In 2017 he transitioned to Welch College where he serves as a dean and teaches graduate students.

William and Danielle also brought a small publishing company to Tennessee when they relocated over twenty-five years ago. In addition, Slater and his oldest son started a real estate investment company. Slater is actively involved in the business community and serves on several local boards including Living Sent Ministries and Improve Hendersonville.  Slater served three years as Chair of the Freedom Festival raising money to go directly into classrooms through teacher grants.

Slater serves part-time as the Representative for District 35 in the Tennessee State House of Representatives. In addition to holding this position, he has been broadly active in the civic and community life of Sumner County and is a proponent for the advancement of higher education.
